Description

Pound Cottage and The Post Office is a cottage and post office located in Rockbeare, dated 1830, with an extension likely built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The building features plastered stone rubble, with stone rubble or brick stacks topped by plastered chimney shafts. The cottage has a thatched roof, while the extension has a slate roof.

The main cottage is arranged in a two-room plan, facing southwest, with a central staircase and end stacks; the southeastern stack projects slightly. There is probably a secondary two-storey extension at the rear. The main cottage is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window front with replacement horned 16-pane sash windows and a central 20th-century door set behind a contemporary open porch with a hipped thatch roof. Above the porch, there is a Beerstone plaque inscribed with "Porch Cottage, 1830." The roof is hipped at both ends, and the extension features 20th-century windows. The interior has not been inspected.
