Description
Pound Cottage and Pound Farm are two houses that date back to the 15th century. Originally timber-framed, the building was stuccoed over in the early to mid 16th century, with some alterations to the roof occurring around 1714, when the southernmost wide bay was likely added and some external framing was replaced. The ground floor has been rebuilt in red brick, while the first floor retains its timber framing with plaster infill, and the ceiling reflects typical 18th-century features. The building is topped with a tiled roof that includes two brick chimney stacks, and it stands two storeys high with attics and five windows. The windows are 20th-century casements with leaded lights, and there is a dormer on Pound Cottage. Pound Farm features a 20th-century gabled weather porch. Inside, the structure contains two bays of a hall house, showcasing a corner post truss with very heavy footbraces, and evidence of a pair of centrally set service doors. The interior also includes 16th-century floorboards and a fireplace dating from the late 15th to early 16th century in the sitting room.
