Description
The Dunsford monument, located in St Peter's churchyard, is likely from the late 19th century. It is made of white marble set on a grey stone pedestal, which features a moulded cap and base with roughened masonry on the sides. The monument has a tall, square tapered shaft topped with a shaped urn. Inscriptions in lead letters are present on all four sides. The north side commemorates Martin Dunsford of Tiverton, a serge manufacturer who died on October 30, 1763, aged 52, describing him as "a truly wise and sincerely good man." The west side honors Martin Dunsford, the author of "The Historical Memories of Tiverton," who died on March 13, 1807, aged 63. The east side includes an inscription for Gideon Acland Boyce, an architect who died in 1861. Additionally, several other members of the Dunsford, Boyce, Acland, and Pratt families are commemorated, with death dates ranging from 1771 to 1936.
