Description

MARDEN THE STREET SU 05 NE (east side) 3/117 Marden House Farmhouse II Farmhouse. Early-mid C18, possibly incorporating some earlier work. Diaper brickwork with flush stone quoins and dressings. Slate roof. Two storeys and attic, 3 bays, with rear wing on right of 4 bays. Central entrance to stair hall, flanking reception rooms and kitchen in wing. Six-panelled door with stone architrave and flat hood on stone brackets. Moulded stone sill and mid wall string. Painted 2-light stone-mullioned windows, but 3-light to main reception room on ground floor to left, all windows with gauged brick lintels. Wing has similar windows but fenestration altered. One canted bay, and door with stone surround and canopy on brackets, dated 1724, reset. End bay rebuilt in early C19. Interior: Stair early C19 with turned newels. Right sitting room has ogee stopped chamfered cross beam and corresponding spine beam in kitchen to rear. Left room has stack to rear wall, and lateral stack to wing. Principal rafter and collar trusses, and butt purlins, full length of wing.
