Description

The wellhead in the courtyard to the east of Norton Manor is an ornamental structure dating from the 16th century but was erected in 1925. It features a marble wellhead set on a Pennant flagstone plinth, with a wrought iron post that includes a pulley and chain. The design of the wellhead resembles a large classical capital, with a circular base that transitions to a square head through coved corners. It is adorned with acanthus leaf decorations at the corners, and each side displays lions' heads and winged putti within roundels. The square base stone is decorated with a floral scroll pattern on its sides. The wellhead stands on a cruciform Pennant platform that has two tiers and semi-circular projections on each side.
