Description
Farleaze Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with 18th and 19th century rear wings. The building features rendered stone with ashlar dressings and quoins, while later additions are made of rubble stone. It has a stone slate roof and stone stacks, with the upper section of the principal stack constructed from 19th century brick. The 18th and 19th century rear wings are built of coursed limestone rubble, also with a stone slate roof and stone stack.
The original 17th century house consists of two rooms flanking a central lobby entry, with a shorter early 19th century wing added to the left of the front and 18th and 19th century rear wings. The symmetrical front elevation from the 17th century has two storeys, attic windows in two gables, and a three-window range. There are label moulds over ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned windows with leaded lights in iron frames, all of which have been much restored. A mid-20th century porch features an arched doorway. Similar windows are found on other elevations and in the early 19th century wing. The rear wings have wooden casements with leaded lights, along with a mid-20th century addition that has a Roman tile roof.
Inside the 17th century house, there is a double butt-purlin roof with collars extended to form ridge pieces at the gable, along with beams, 17th and 18th century doors, and a mid-18th century staircase with column-on-vase balusters. The early 19th century wing includes a blank and batten framed partition and reused 17th century oak panelling.
