Description
Milestone Cottage is a house that forms the right half of a pair, built in the 18th century. It features squared coursed rubble, with the upper courses being better cut than those below, and has a slate roof that likely replaced the original thatch. The building is two storeys high and has two windows. The ground floor includes a flat-roofed, slightly canted bay that was once a shop window, alongside a 15-pane horizontal fixed casement. On the first floor, there are two small 2-light leaded casements with early fittings. An off-centre left 20th-century glazed door provides access. At the back, there is a notable 2-light 18th-century casement with fittings on the first floor, and a brick gable stack is located to the right. There is a one-storey wing at the back that is not of special interest. The walling at the front and gables suggests that the roof may have been raised at some point. The name of the cottage comes from a milestone located at the front of the property.
