Description
Milestone is a house that forms the left half of a pair, built in the 18th century. It is constructed from small coursed limestone rubble with Chilmark stone flush quoins and has a plain tile roof. At the back right, there is a large brick extension added in the late 19th century. The house has two storeys and features two windows: a three-light casement with leading and a smaller similar window with thin wooden mullions and broad wooden lintels. The central door, which is glazed and from the 20th century, is set under a flat hood. The windows are positioned slightly left of the center. On the back, there is a notable early leaded two-light casement on the first floor. The building has large brick gable stacks and is set below pavement level, with a part-concealed plinth and a step down to the doorway. It forms a pleasing pair with the adjacent Milestone Cottage.
