Description

St Ann's is a detached house located on the corner of Mere Church Street and Church Lane. It likely dates back to the 17th century, although most of its architectural details are from the later 19th century. The building is constructed of small coursed limestone rubble with flush Chilmark stone quoins and some brick dressings on the Church Lane side. It features a plain tile roof and has a parallel block structure, with the front block facing the church and hipped at the right end. The masonry differs in the first two bays from the third. The house has two storeys and a total of three windows on the front, all of which are 6-pane margin-bar sashes. There is a 19th-century fielded 6-panel door with two glazed panels, located under a flat canopy supported by brackets positioned between the second and third windows, possibly indicating an original cross passage. The left gable has two brick stacks, one to the left of the doorway. On the Church Lane side, there are two hipped ends with a central valley and four segmental-headed windows. A late 19th-century back wing features various segmental-headed windows and a bay window. The left return of the building is plain. The interior has not been inspected.
