Description
The barn and horse gin, located 80 meters north-north-east of Chilton Park Farmhouse, date from the early 18th century and the 19th century. The barn is timber framed, covered with weatherboarding, and has a thatched roof. Attached to the north side is the horse gin house, which is also framed and features vertical split log cladding, with a thatched roof. There is an additional building attached to the gable of the barn, which is framed on a brick sill, weatherboarded, and has a tiled roof. The barn consists of five bays with aisles, featuring jowelled posts with reverse curved braces to the ties and arcade plates. The ties have struts supporting a double purlin roof. The thatch is swept up over high doors on the north side, while doors below the outer wall plate are located on the south side. The roof is hipped over the end bays. The engine house has an open part-hexagonal end and a socket for the top bearing of the gin spindle.
