Description
The stable blocks at Chilton Lodge are 18th and 19th century structures that have been converted for use as garaging and residential space, with some alterations made in the 1960s. They feature hipped slate roofs and are constructed of red brick, with a stone cill band at the first floor and a brick dentil cornice. The buildings are arranged in three blocks around a courtyard and are two storeys high.
The central block is notable for its central pediment and clock, with five bays of glazing bar sash windows set in moulded brick architraves, separated by corbelled pilasters on the first floor. The ground floor has sliding garage doors in the central three bays. The side wings are also two storeys, with a varying number of bays: one, three, one, one, and one (a b c b a). The west wing features casement windows, while the east wing has glazing bar sashes with rubbed brick flat arches. The open end of the courtyard is defined by short projecting ramped brick walls with ball finials flanking the steps.
