Description
The building consists of a barn, cart shed, and horse gin located 24 meters north of Millholme Farmhouse. The barn dates from the mid to late 17th century, the cart shed was built around 1800, and the horse gin dates from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from random rubble sandstone with dressed quoins, while the horse gin features dressed sandstone and the cart shed is made of hammer-dressed sandstone. The roofs are covered with clay pantiles and have stone gable and ridge copings.
The barn has a wide flat-arched opening on its west face, positioned to the left of the horse gin. The gable ends have bricked-up loft doors with wide keyed lintels above plain lintels, and there is a stable door on the east face. The half-octagonal horse gin is attached to the west side of the barn and contains no machinery. The cart shed, which has a hayloft above, is connected to the east side of the barn, creating an 'L'-shaped plan.
On the south face of the cart shed, there are three elliptical-arched openings with voussoirs set on square piers, although the right-hand opening has been altered and blocked. Above these openings is a central loft door, flanked by altered hit-and-miss openings. The north face features slit vents on the ground floor and three altered first-floor hit-and-miss openings. Additionally, there are two hayloft windows with altered glazing in the east gable.
