Description

This building is a barn, gin gang, and cart shed located 20 metres west of South Brandon Farmhouse. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and consists of two builds, with a late 18th to early 19th century gin gang and an early 19th century cart shed. The structure is made of squared rubble and features pantiled roofs.

The barn is tall and single-storey, consisting of three bays, with an additional three-bay section to the right, which includes a loft. The barn has flush quoins and a large 20th-century vehicle opening on the left. There are stone steps leading to a boarded loft door on the right, along with a small added lean-to wood shed on the right bay. The roof is continuous, steeply pitched, with swept eaves and raised verges.

The rear of the original barn section, which faces the farmyard, includes a Dutch door and flanking breathers. The rear of the added section also has a Dutch door, along with flanking hit-and-miss windows that have segmental brick heads. The gin gang is large and semi-octagonal, featuring rectangular piers, rubble walls, a 20th-century vehicle opening with brick jambs, and a pyramidal roof. The cart shed is a wide lean-to with three square openings in its front wall.

An altered L-plan range of farm buildings located to the left rear of the barn is not of special interest.
