Description
The linked barn, gin-gang, and byre to the east of Morley Farmhouse are structures dating from the mid to late 18th century, with the byre added in the mid-19th century. They are built of coursed rubble and feature pantiled roofs, with the barn's roof having stone-flagged eaves that face the farmyard. The buildings are arranged in an L-plan, with the barn located at the left rear of the farmhouse and the byre positioned at right angles, enclosing the farmyard. The gin-gang is situated at the rear of the barn.
The barn is a tall, single-storey structure consisting of two sections. The first is a 2-bay section that adjoins the farmhouse and has opposed Dutch doors. The second, added 4-bay section has scattered openings, two rows of breathers, and a 20th-century vehicle opening at the rear. It features a steeply-pitched roof with swept eaves. The lower single-storey, 5-bay byre has an off-centre Dutch door and replaced casements set in segmental-headed openings with brick surrounds, and its roof is hipped at the right.
The octagonal-plan gin-gang has circular piers, later rubble infill walls, and a pyramidal roof. Inside the barn, some original adzed roof trusses remain, featuring thin tie beams and swept principals that are halved and crossed at the ridge. A 20th-century brick lean-to addition at the front of the barn is not considered of interest. At the time of the survey, the buildings were derelict. They are included in the listing for their group value.
