Description
Brotton House is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century, situated on the north side of Brotton High Street. It is constructed of dressed sandstone with tooled margins, featuring chamfered quoins at the corners. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, incorporating a stone ridge, gable copings, and end stacks.
The house is two storeys and an attic, with three bays. A central round-headed doorway, accessed by three steps, is flanked by a pilaster and architrave surround beneath a modillioned, pedimented, Roman Doric doorcase. The doorway contains a six-panelled door and attached fanlight with glazing bars. The windows are renewed sashes, with tripartite arrangements in the left and right bays. These windows have painted sills and plain lintels below keyed lintels. Above a narrow eaves band is a straight parapet. A skylight is positioned to the left, and a late 19th-century gabled roof dormer is on the right.
