Description

River Cottage is a mid-18th century cottage located at the end of a row in Downton. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with a tiled roof and a brick stack on the left side. The cottage is two storeys high and has two windows. A 20th-century central door is flanked by two segmental-headed 2-light casement windows on the ground floor. The first floor has two 2-light casements and one blocked window. To the left is a brick extension built with English bond, featuring a half-hipped tiled roof and a 20th-century casement window. The rear of the property was inaccessible during a survey in November 1984. The interior reportedly contains an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel, a timber-framed partition, and planked doors with wooden latches.
