Description

Leicester House is a semi-detached house located in Downton, dating from the mid-17th century, with an early 18th-century bay added to the east, and a facing completed around 1800. The house is constructed of painted Flemish bond brick, with a Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. It has a two-storey, three-window front. The central entrance features a four-panelled door with side lights and a classical surround; to either side is a single three-light casement window. The first floor has one two-light and two three-light casement windows. At the rear, there are two two-light casement windows and a four-panelled door. A pointed stair window with Y-tracery is also visible at the rear. The interior contains a chamfered beam with ogee stops, a fireplace with a chamfered lintel in the west room, and a mid-18th-century staircase with turned balusters. The building was originally a timber-framed two-bay cottage.
