Description
Wellesley Cottage is a mid-18th century cottage located at the end of a row on Downton Barford Lane. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with vitrified headers and features a thatched roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The entrance is now at the rear, with the front doorway blocked. The cottage is two stories tall and has a three-window front. On the left side, there is a three-light casement window, a 20th-century sash window in the blocked doorway, and a 12-pane sash window on the right. A two-brick plat band runs along the first floor, which has three 12-pane sash windows. The sides of the cottage have a moulded brick cornice and flanking brick pilasters, and the roof has coped verges. The right side has a 12-pane sash window on the ground floor and casements in the attic. To the left, there is a single-storey extension made of timber-frame and brick, topped with a hipped tiled roof. The rear features a 20th-century door and porch, along with 20th-century metal casements. Inside, the cottage is said to have a reeded fireplace surround with paterae and similar detailing on cupboards that have been inserted in a blocked open fireplace.
