Description

No 20, known as Farmers Steakhouse and Sidmouth House, is located on Sidmouth Street and dates from around 1840. This building, which is situated at the corner facing Devizes Green, is two storeys high and constructed of red brick, with the Farmers Steakhouse and Sidmouth House section painted. It features a stone plinth and chamfered quoins, along with a first-floor sill course and a shallow eaves cornice. The low-pitched hipped slate roof adds to its character.

Farmers Steakhouse and Sidmouth House has two windows on both frontages, with one window on the ground floor facing Sidmouth Street. The windows are recessed sashes with intact glazing bars, and the ground floor windows are larger with flat brick arches above them. Each front has an entrance with recessed doors made of two full-length moulded panels, topped with semi-circular fanlights that have radial, swagged glazing bars.

Nos 21 and 22, known as Walker & Rose Ltd, feature three similar windows on the first floor and one window on the ground floor to the left. The ground floor of this section has been refaced in the early 20th century as a butcher's shop, adorned with white tiles and a blue tile plinth. An arabesque pattern decorates the light blue tile frame and the doorway surround. There are two windows with diamond-shaped panels below, featuring a cow on the left and a sheep on the right. The door and fanlight here mirror those of Farmers Steakhouse and Sidmouth House.
