Description
Nos 117 and 119 Southbroom Road are late 18th century to early 19th century buildings located on the west side of Southbroom Road. No 117 is a two-storey structure made of red brick set on a painted stone plinth. It features a first-floor sill course and a shallow eaves cornice beneath a gable end slate roof. There is a hipped dormer with slate cheeks. The first floor has two recessed sash windows without glazing bars. The ground floor showcases a mid-19th century shop front framed by pilasters on pedestals, a frieze, and a projecting moulded cornice, with a two-light plate glass window. The recessed door has four flush panels, two of which are glazed, and a blind fanlight under a semi-circular arch. There is a blocked window to the right.
No 119, which may be slightly older, is also two storeys of red brick on a stone plinth and is taller than No 117. It has a band between the storeys and a plain eaves cornice, with a half hipped tiled roof. The first floor has three recessed sash windows, with the center window being blind, all lacking glazing bars and featuring block sills. On the ground floor, there is a door to the left with four panels and a rectangular fanlight above, topped with a flat brick arch. To the left of center is a window similar to those on the first floor. The central recessed door has four panels, two of which are glazed, and a blind semi-circular fanlight above it. A flat hood supported by fine long scroll brackets covers this door. To the right, there is a two-light shop window framed by fluted pilasters, a frieze, and a projecting cornice.
