Description

No 1 Albion Place is an 18th-century building that was refronted in the early 19th century. It stands three storeys tall, constructed of Bath stone on a projecting plinth, featuring a small moulded cornice and a blocking course. The roof is covered with stone tiles.

On the second floor, there are three windows, two of which are false. The first floor has two windows along with a central French casement flanked by narrow side glazing. The ground floor includes two windows and a central six-panel door with reeded edging on the panels. This door is situated under a Greek Doric porch supported by two columns, with wall pilasters, an entablature, and a blocking course above. A cast iron balcony porch, featuring panel standards with honeysuckle and rosette patterns and likely later rails of bars and rosettes, sits above the door, topped with a hipped lead roof.

The end elevation facing the street has flanking Doric pilasters and one blind window on each floor. There is a connecting wing to Nos 2 and 3 Albion Place, which is two storeys high and built of Bath stone. This wing is designed in an early 19th-century Soanian style, featuring one bay with projecting flanking pilaster strips, a frieze with incised line panelled treatment, and a parapet with coping. The raised centre block has angle stele. In the recessed panel framed by this design, there is a long rectangular three-light casement window with marginal glazing set in an incised surround. The ground floor of the wing has a central door made of six flush panels with a reeded architrave surround, complemented by a decorative knocker in a hand and ring pattern.

Nos 23 to 28 (consecutive), Nos 1 to 3 (consecutive) Albion Place, and No 29 form a group.
