Description
This is an early 19th-century toll cottage. It is constructed from limestone rubble, partly rendered, and has a slate roof. The front is canted, facing onto the road. The central doorway has been blocked and a painted toll board is positioned above, displaying the prescribed stages and charges. The windows are 20th-century metal replacements. A two-bay extension has been added to the rear, built with roughcast and slated construction. This extension includes a half-glazed door and windows, and a half-hipped roof. The group value of this building lies in its association with the historical management of road tolls.
