Description
The Old Toll Cottage is a toll cottage built in the early 19th century, with later extensions added in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone rubble and features a Welsh slate roof. The cottage is a single cell with a symmetrical design, featuring a central entryway flanked by two 2-light timber casement windows with segmental heads. There is a plank door set within a small gabled porch. Above the entry, there are two similar windows. An external stack, which is currently truncated, is located on the left-hand gable. A rear extension was added, and the rear roof slope was altered in the later 19th century. Inside, there are two small segmentally arched fireplaces and an original triangular roof truss in the center, while the rest of the roofing dates from the later 19th century. The cottage appears to have been used as a toll cottage, and its location supports this historical function.
