Description

Farnley Gate Cottage is an early 19th-century former toll house, later altered into a cottage. The building is constructed of rubble with dressed stone details and has a Welsh slate roof. It has a two-room plan with a central entrance lobby. The single-story front facade has two bays, with a renewed central door flanked by 20th-century small-paned casement windows within original openings, each with slightly projecting sills and tooled lintels. The hipped roof has a central banded ridge stack. The returns of the building show sash windows without glazing bars, set close to the front wall. A 20th-century extension to the rear is not considered to be of historic significance.
