Description

The west portal of Farnley Scar Tunnel is a railway tunnel entrance that was opened in 1834, designed by engineer Francis Giles. It is constructed from squared stone featuring rusticated voussoirs and cut dressings. The portal has a round arch with a flat-coped wall above it. Flanking wing walls, which also have similar coping, terminate in square piers topped with low pyramidal caps.
