Description
The Old Station Building is a station from the mid-19th century, possibly designed by Benjamin Green. It is constructed of squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a cast iron frame for the canopy, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a double-span design with a shorter rear range and stands two storeys tall with six bays. There is a doorway in the second bay and a pair of doorways in the fifth bay. The windows are primarily 12-pane sash windows, except for a smaller window located above the paired doors. All openings are set in recessed chamfered surrounds, with those on the ground floor featuring hoodmoulds; at the time of the survey, all openings were boarded over. The building has coped gables with moulded kneelers, a stepped and corniced left end, and two ridge stacks with panelled shafts. The canopy over the platform is supported by five octagonal piers that have moulded caps and bases. The rear elevation includes a three-bay section on the right with seven steps leading up to a door, while the flat-roofed left bay has narrow 8-pane sash windows and a moulded parapet.
