Description
The farm buildings located to the north and west of Farnley Farmhouse were planned in the early 19th century and extended in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of rubble with cut dressings and feature Welsh slate roofs, forming an L-plan layout.
The north range consists of two parts. On the left, there are shelter sheds with a granary above, which has four segment-headed arches, some of which are blocked. The three arches on the left have brick voussoirs. Above, there are two pitching doors with three part-slatted windows in between. To the right, the mid-19th century, one-storey, four-bay range includes a segment-headed cart entrance with boarded double doors, a stable door flanked by part-slatted windows, and a boarded door. The right end bay has a recessed pair of pigsties with a dovecote in the roof space. An external stone stair utilizes the broad wall that separates the sty exercise yards. All openings in the mid-19th century section have stop-chamfered alternating-block surrounds.
The west range contains stables and a barn, which are two storeys high with four irregular bays. These feature boarded doors and part-slatted windows, all set in chamfered surrounds. At the rear, there is a gingang with six timbered openings and a conical roof. The roof structure includes a central post supported by a tie beam, with radial ties, struts, and two levels of purlins.
