Description
The farm buildings located to the west of East Oakwood Farmhouse date from the early 19th century, with the exception of an early 18th-century byre. They are constructed from rubble with cut dressings. The north range features a Welsh slate roof, while the west range has stone slates, and the shelter shed is covered with Lakeland slates. The buildings form an L-plan layout around a yard, with the byre on the north side attached to the farmhouse and a pent shelter shed on the south.
The north range consists of a single-storey byre with four bays, which includes three doorways with chamfered alternating-block surrounds, blocked slit vents, and a steeply-pitched roof. To the left, there is a later addition of a two-storey bay. The two-storey west range is divided into two sections; the taller right section features a doorway in an alternating-block surround, slit vents, and a first-floor Yorkshire sash window. The left section has three segmental-headed arches, which are partly blocked, and four first-floor part-slatted windows. The south range is an open-fronted shelter shed supported by timber piers, backed by a tall wall with flat coping.
The rear elevation of the west range displays a projecting D-shaped gingang with three walled-up openings. The lower part of this range has a pent projection and part-slatted windows. The right return features an external stone stair leading to a boarded door in an alternating-block surround, topped by a reverse-stepped gable.
