Description

The farm buildings located northeast of Aydon North Farmhouse were planned in the early 19th century, with the northern range dating from the mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed rubble with dressed stone details and feature Welsh slate roofs, except for the pigsty, which has a 20th-century metal sheet roof. The buildings form ranges on the north and west sides of a rectangular yard, with a pigsty at the southeast corner of the west range and a detached loose box to the south of the yard.

The north range consists of shelter sheds with a granary above, featuring two storeys and three bays. The end bays have pairs of three-centred arches, with a boarded pitching door above in the left bay and part-slatted windows. The gables are coped, and there is a gablet with bargeboards over the pitching door.

The west range is a single-storey barn that includes two stable doors and a part-slatted window in between. To the left, there is a pent pigsty and an exercise yard, with roughly-arched coping on the walls. The gingang at the rear has two broad curved piers and three slender round piers, topped with a conical roof. Its roof structure features a tie-beam carrying a central post with radial struts to alternate principals and three levels of purlins. The loose box has a gabled south end with boarded double doors in a rebated three-centred arch, and there are paired boarded doors under timber lintels on the north side.

The range on the east side of the yard has been altered in the 20th century and is not considered of special interest.
