Description
The hay barn, located at the rear of the outbuilding to the east of Aydon North Farmhouse, dates from the late 19th century. It is constructed of timber and features a Welsh slate roof. The north elevation consists of four bays, with principal posts resting on shaped padstones. The central bays are open, while the end bays have long diagonal braces positioned behind vertical slatting supported by three light rails. The barn has overhanging eaves all around. The returns exhibit intersecting braces behind similar slatting, except for the upper part of the right return, which has continuous boarding.
Inside, the barn features king-post trusses with one level of purlins and iron brackets situated between the posts and tie-beams.
