Description

The garden walls, gate piers, and privy located to the south and west of Aydon South Farmhouse date from the 18th century, likely incorporating some earlier materials. They are constructed from coursed roughly-squared stone, featuring cut stone piers and dressings. The privy has a 20th-century metal pent roof. The south wall has flat coping that ramps up on either side of square piers set on stepped bases, topped with low pyramidal caps. To the east, this wall connects to piers with moulded pyramidal caps that flank the entrance to the yard, while to the west, it ramps up twice to connect with a tall west wall. A Victorian postbox is set into the west end of the south wall. There are boarded doors at the north end of the west wall and two in the north wall, with the western door featuring a 5-pane overlight leading to the contemporary privy. The north wall connects to the north-west corner of the farmhouse.
