Description

The garden walls, gatepiers, and attached privy located to the south of Brinkheugh Farmhouse date from the late 17th century, with the privy being from the 19th century. The walls are constructed of coursed rubble with cut dressings, and the privy features a pantile roof. The west wall, which connects to the southwest corner of the farmhouse, stands 2.5 metres high and has a sloped rubble coping. The south wall, which used to have railings, is 0.6 metres high. The south gateway is marked by rusticated piers with attached jambs, pulvinated friezes, and moulded caps topped with ball finials on swept bases; two finials and one base were found on the ground at the time of the survey. The east wall is partially in ruins, and the pent privy on the external face near the north end has a boarded door and a small window. At the north end, the wall returns to connect with the southeast corner of an outbuilding, which has a 20th-century garage attached to its external face that is not of interest.
