Description
The wall on the north side of the former mill race, located to the south-east of the Manor House at Brinkburn Priory, is a Grade II listed structure. This medieval wall, which has been patched in later periods, is constructed of squared stone and measures approximately 120 metres in length and 3 metres in height. At the west end, there is a short return featuring moulded coping and a low segmental arch that leads to a covered section of the mill race. Near the west end of the main wall, a segmental arch opens into an open walled pit, which may have served as a latrine connected to the monastic infirmary. At the east end, the wall connects to the south-west corner of Brinkburn Mill and includes steps leading south, with a low arch across the race, culminating in a short section of more substantial walling that protects the mill from river erosion.
