Description
The wall at the north-east end of Empson Close in Saffron Walden is a Grade II listed structure dating from around 1600. It is constructed of red brick in a random bond and runs approximately 25 meters from east to west. The wall features a triangular coping with a supporting ovolo moulding. The western end of the wall is about 2.25 meters high and ramps up to approximately 3.25 meters at the eastern end. The western section was rebuilt around 1900, and there have been 20th-century repairs to the central ramp, as well as a 20th-century secondary brick pier that adjoins a 19th-century stone pier at the eastern end. This wall is part of the former garden walls associated with The Priory.
