Description

No. 7 Common Hill is a house built around 1840, featuring a 20th-century interior renovation. It is constructed from yellow gault brick with scored pointing and has a slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan, standing two storeys high with a cellar.

The front (east) elevation has two windows and a central doorway. The windows are segment-headed sashes with glazing bars, arranged in a 3x4 pane configuration. The doorway features a semicircular overlight with decorative glazing bars and a 20th-century six-panelled flush bead moulded door, with boot scrapers on either side. To the north, there is a passageway leading to the rear with a 19th-century boarded door, while to the south, there is a segment-headed basement window, now fitted with a 20th-century casement and a grille above. The windows are flanked by 20th-century louvred shutters. The roof is hipped at the south end with deep eaves, and there are stacks on the south end wall.

The rear (west) elevation has three windows, with the first floor featuring two similar sashes with glazing bars in a 3x4 pane arrangement, and one smaller window with a 20th-century casement in a 2x4 pane configuration. The central doorway has a large arch-headed glazed panel, and the basement window has been replaced with a 20th-century 4x2 paned casement. At the north end, there is a shared passageway with No. 9, which has an original brick floor. The south end elevation is plain and has two stacks.

Inside, the interior has been completely reworked in the 20th century. The cellar features 19th-century red brick, and the south wall includes a segment-headed fireplace.
