Description

The riverside wall north of the Manor House, with attached gatepiers, is a structure that dates back to medieval times but was remodeled and partly rebuilt in the early 19th century. It is constructed from squared stone with cut dressings. The wall is approximately 150 meters long and stands 5 meters high on the river side, while it is only 1 meter high on the internal side. The top features a gabled coping from the 19th century, with occasional crenellations.

From across the river, a long section of the wall on the left displays medieval masonry, including a corbelled-out projection near the attached gateway, which extends just below the coping. The central section, which includes steps leading down to the water, has been entirely rebuilt. The right end of the wall features a chamfered set-back at mid-height, likely medieval in origin, and connects to the north-west corner of the walled yard of the Manor House. The internal face of the wall shows the attached gateway towards the north end; the gatepiers exhibit 15th or early 16th-century mouldings along with later swept dips, although the ball finials are missing. These gatepiers may be remnants of a priory gatehouse.

An additional wall attached to the east of the gatepiers is not considered of special interest.
