Description

The wall in front of the Manor House dates from around 1700 and is constructed of red brick and blue lias stone, with Cotswold stone used for the gate piers. The gate piers are made of red brick and stone, featuring stone corniced caps and ball finials. The flanking walls are red brick facing the road and blue lias stone facing the garden. There is moulded stone coping that ramps up to the outer walls, which are blue lias stone on the road side and brick on the garden side. The left side wall has an opening for a carriage drive, marked by two tall Cotswold stone gate piers. The wall is divided into three sections running from north to south. One section, measuring 40 meters, consists of thin coursed blue lias with triangular coping and two tall gate piers. Another section, made of red brick, is believed to date from 1910 and is designed to match the style of the house; it contains the main entrance gates. The final section is 18 meters of thin blue lias with a rubble coping, said to be a 20th-century rebuild. Overall, the wall significantly enhances the setting of the Manor House.
