Description
College Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble and has a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high, with a cellar and attics, and features five window bays. The central entrance lobby leads to a stair at the rear and has flanking reception rooms, with a parlour to the left. There is a central gabled porch that has a moulded round-headed opening with a keystone and a boarded door. The windows are two-light ovolo moulded with labels, and there are five gabled dormers with timber casements. The gable stacks complete the exterior.
Inside, the parlour is fully panelled in 17th-century style and includes a stone fireplace, which may be later, along with an overmantel carved with the arms of the Hyde family and the date 1626. A similar overmantel is found on the first floor, featuring different arms. The interior also contains early doors, window seats, and a principal rafter roof from the 17th century. There is a scratch date on the porch indicating the year 1754.
