Description

This is an 18th or early 19th century milestone situated opposite number 15 High Street in Purton. The milestone is constructed of sarsen stone and comprises a square shaft that has been reduced to a triangular shape, terminating in an oval face at the top. Legends are now painted on the stone, indicating distances to Wootton Bassett (4 miles), Cricklade (4 miles), Cirencester (11 miles), and Bath (31 miles).
