Description
Tara House is an early 19th-century house located on Station Road in Purton. It is constructed of stone with brick dressings around the openings, although the stucco was removed at the time of inspection in June 1985. The house has a stone slate roof and stands two stories tall with three bays. The central hall features a six-panelled door topped by a decorative round fanlight. The windows are 12-pane sashes with timber lintels. The front wall has a parapet that sweeps up at the ends. A full-length, two-storey cast iron verandah with slender fluted columns and a swept copper roof adorns the front elevation. The house has gable stacks and one hipped dormer, with wing walls that sweep down at the ends, concealing gable lean-to extensions. The right bay has been extended to the rear under a parallel ridged pantiled roof, which also features gable stacks.
