Description
Nos. 2 and 3 Patford Street is a house that has been divided into two offices. It dates from the early to mid-17th century and was altered in the mid-20th century. The building is rendered and has a pantile roof, featuring a two-room plan. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range.
Originally, there was a central doorway, which is now blocked and replaced with a late 20th-century casement window. On either side of this doorway are full-height shallow canted bays from the 17th century. The ground-floor of these bays has 20th-century casement windows, while the first floor features timber 5-light mullion and transom windows, which are topped with an overhanging canopy and a dentil cornice. The building also has two gabled dormers with 19th-century casements.
Inside, notable features include a four-bay roof with butt purlins, although the ridge is not visible. The left-hand first-floor room has well-crafted scratch-moulded panelling, panelled window reveals, and a wall cupboard with double doors and wrought-iron cockshead hinges. There is also a carved cornice, a blocked salt cupboard in the fire surround, and chamfered beams on the ground floor. The building forms part of No. 1 Patford Street.
