Description

The Town Hall in Calne was built between 1884 and 1886 by Oliver. It is constructed from squared, coursed limestone rubble and features a slate roof in the Tudor Revival style. The building has an irregular plan, which includes a council chamber on the left, a rear hall, a central clock tower with a carriage archway, and offices on the right along Patford Street. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a five-window range.

The front of the building is irregular, featuring a plinth, string courses, and coped gables with a parapet. The windows include mullion and transom designs, with a full-height gable on the left that has paired three-light windows on the ground floor, paired cross windows above a carved panel on the first floor, and a three-light attic mullion window beneath blind panelling. Below the clock tower is a Tudor-arched doorway, a nine-light first-floor stair window, and an ashlar clock tower that has a clock set in a shallow recess topped with a pyramidal roof. The wide Tudor-arched carriageway is accompanied by a six-light window, while the right-hand section has eight-light and three-light windows beneath a pair of small gables.

Inside, the Town Hall features an open-well stair with a lift, a panelled council chamber, and a rear meeting hall.
