Description
No. 3 Castle Street is a house that likely has a 17th-century basement but was rebuilt in the early 19th century. It features a limestone ashlar plinth, painted squared limestone, a brick stack on the left-hand gable, and a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan with coped gables. The right-hand side has a round-arched doorway with a six-panel door and steps leading up to it. There is a shallow canted bay with a 20th-century window that has glazing bars, and the first floor has 8/8-pane sash windows. Inside, notable details include a right-hand axial stair with stick balusters and a ramped rail, a 17th-century axial ceiling beam in the basement with wide stop-chamfered edges, and a reused timber lintel with mortice holes.
