Description
Nos. 25 and 27 Church Street is a house that has been converted into shops and offices. It dates back to the early 16th century, with heating added and extensions made in the 17th century. The building was raised and refronted in the early 19th century and has undergone alterations in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with a red brick front and a slate roof. Originally, it had three bays and is two storeys high with a four-window front. The first floor has 19th-century sash windows set in reveals with flat arched heads, while the ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts. The entrance to No. 27 has a cambered head. The building has dentilled brick eaves, a left end stack, and the right gable end shows exposed timbers. At the rear of No. 25, there is a short gabled 17th-century wing with exposed timber framing and brick nogging. It has a clasped purlin queen strut to the collar roof with straight braces. There is also a continuous outshut under a catslide roof at the rear of No. 27. The interior has not been inspected.
