Harris And Unidentified Monument In The Churchyard, 1 To 3 Metres South West Of Porch, Church Of St Mary

The Harris and unidentified monument is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, positioned 1 to 3 meters south-west of the porch. These two chest tombs date from the late 18th century and are made of limestone. The Harris monument, which is the closer of the two at 1 meter away, has an earliest date of 1780. Its south side features floral drops at the angle pilasters and two inscription panels framed by Rococo cartouches, which include winged putti in the spandrels, along with elegant Roman and italic lettering. The north side displays lozenge panels with eroded lettering. The monument has a moulded plinth, a cornice, and a cyma recta moulded slab. The unidentified monument, located 3 meters away, has end panels designed as single blocks to mimic balusters. Its south side includes a panel with shallow relief chalices framed by willow branches and eroded lettering. This tomb also has a moulded plinth and a cyma recta moulded slab. At the time of the last survey in May 1986, the tomb was noted to be collapsing.
