Description
The John Harris monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 11 metres south of the southwest corner of the aisle to the Church of St Mary. It dates from 1738 and is constructed from two types of limestone. The tomb features a bold top with a cyma edge and lyre ends, with the eastern end displaying a heart-shaped panel. There are bolection moulded panels on the north and south sides, which flank vertical drops or panels. The monument has a large moulded cyma base, with the table and base made from hard shelly Minchinhampton stone. An 1879 survey identifies John Harris as a clothier, although the panels are no longer legible.
