Description

The Sheppard monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, 7 metres south of the south transept wall of the Church of St. Mary. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a moulded table and base, with recessed corner balusters. The inscription is presented in a pair of incised ovals, commemorating Samuel Sheppard, who died in 1756, along with his family. To the east of the monument, there are five notable headstones from the mid-18th century to mid-19th century.
