Description

The Sheppard monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, 10 metres south of the Church of St. James the Less. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of freestone. The tomb features a moulded slab with corner balusters and plain ends that have later inscriptions. The south side includes a cartouche, while the north side has two arched panels with decorated spandrels. It has a moulded base and stands on a plain 20th-century plinth. An earlier legible date on the monument indicates "Sheppard 1859."
