Description

Purton House is a house dating from circa 1840. It is stucco-faced with a slate roof and stands within its own grounds. The main block is two storeys high and features three bays by one. A central double-panelled door is set within an Ionic portico in antis. The central bay is slightly projected forward. The windows are twelve-pane and fifteen-pane sashes, with moulded architraves and bracketed cornices. A top cornice and parapet finish the facade.

The building extends to the left by three bays, set well back and with a hipped slate roof behind a parapet. At the rear are extensive service buildings arranged around a yard. The original entrance was located to the east.

The house was owned by Rajah Brooke of Sarawak between 1870 and circa 1873.
