Description

The Tithe Barn at Manor House is a Grade II listed barn and farm buildings, now serving as outbuildings and two dwellings. It dates from the 15th to 16th centuries, with some 19th-century alterations. The structure is built from limestone rubble, with the walls of the inner court featuring half-timbering and patterned brick noggings. It has a stone slate roof.

The west wing consists of 13 bays, with the inner wall made of stone up to three-quarters of its height, and timber framing above. There are cart entrances located in the fourth and tenth bays, with the latter featuring a hipped roof that projects on brackets to create an open shelter. The south wing, which faces the road to the church, includes six timber-framed bays and four stone bays, the latter having two gables on the rear (north) side and housing stables and two dwellings that were converted in the 19th century. The timber framing includes vertical studs and corner braces.

The south elevation showcases the gable of the west wing at its western end, featuring 17th-century stone mullioned windows. Originally, there were two tiers of 15 slit vents, some of which have been replaced with 19th-century stone mullioned windows. There is also a blocked cart entrance at the east end. This is an impressive building with significant group value.
